FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions!

Q. DO WOMEN RACE WITH MEN?

No. The Kangaroo Point Cycling Club is pleased to present races just for Women.

Q. IS THERE A FEED ZONE?

Yes. You can read about them here. Importantly - there is no feeding from vehicles, and no neutral feeders.

Q. IS THERE A SAG WAGON?

Yes, there will be a sag wagon/ sweep vehicle following the last race. If you are unable to continue the race please wait on the side of the road and the sweep vehicle will take you to Warwick. The sweep vehicle follows the final race departure from Gatton at 10:40am.

Q. IS THERE A SPARES VEHICLE?

Yes, we provide a spares vehicle for every race. Riders may bring a set a of spare wheels which will be carried in the spares vehicle in case of a puncture or wheel malfunction. Please note that there are no neutral spares so you will only get a spare wheel if you have one in the spares vehicle. All riders should also carry with them the equipment necessary to repair a puncture. Please identify your wheel/s by attaching a card with your race number. No “team” wheels.

Q. WHAT IS THE RACE REFUND POLICY?

The refund policy published by AusCycling applies. However at the point of transfer from AusCycling to Kangaroo Point Cycling Club, entries become final. Kangaroo Point Cycling Club is unable to issue a full refund but depending on the number of requests there will be an amount refunded.

Why? Because this is the policy that Kangaroo Point Cycling Club has adopted for this race. It sucks for us, as much as it does for any rider who becomes ill/has an injury just a few days out and can't make it. It costs us a lot of money to deliver this race, fixed costs that we've already committed to based on your entry and we don't get any of it back, to give back to you.

Q. WHY DO THE RIDERS SUPPORT VEHICLES NEED TO LEAVE GATTON BY 8:50am?

This is a safety matter particularly along Gatton Clifton Road as it is extremely difficult to overtake other vehicles. Traffic ques behind the peloton and non-race drivers can become impatient and attempt to pass when it is not safe to do so placing the riders and other road users in danger i.e. falls, vehicle v cyclists accident. Hence the least number of vehicles on the race route will allow everyone to arrive in Warwick safely.

Riders warm up clothing and other items can be placed in their respective spares vehicle for collection at Warwick.

According to the Police Permit, should there be no more than four (4) vehicles queued behind a group, the police may stop the entire groups convoy to allow the vehicles to pass. This has happened in previous years and unfortunately most of the offending vehicles belong to the cyclists!

Q. WHERE ARE THE RACE PRESENTATIONS?

Presentations will be held at the finish village on Victoria Street, Warwick. Presentations will commence approximately 20 - 40 minutes after the arrival of each grade’s spare’s vehicle. There will be 4 separate presentations during the afternoon.

Even if you are not a winner, please stay around for the presentation and support your fellow riders.

Q. HOW CLOSE IS THE START TO THE FINISH? IS IT EASY TO GET BACK?

The shortest possible distance between the start and the finish is 96km, most of which is the race route but includes more highway.  Competitors must make their own arrangements.  Importantly - if you're from out of town there's no way other than on your bike or in a car. That will make it a 201km day if you don’t have a support driver or prior arrangements. We suggest you contact your club mates to arrange sharing transport.

Q. WILL GRADES BE COMBINED?

Kangaroo Point Cycling Club is proud to present a race where grades are rarely combined because of competition for places in our capped fields.

It is possible, but highly unlikely that we will be combining grades If we do - we'll put this in to the Programme available in the week leading up to the race.

Q. WILL GRADES BE SPLIT?

It is likely that some popular grades will be split, in particular we expect both Masters B and Masters C to be split in to two races.

Competitors will enter their typical licensed grade through the AusCycling system, and when entry numbers have been confirmed Kangaroo Point Cycling Club will work with AusCycling and the State Handicapper to split grades according to age.

Q. DO JUNIOR UNDER 19 RIDERS REQUIRE RESTRICTED GEARS?

Junior Under 19 riders will be racing in combined grades. Accordingly, restricted gears are not required.

Q. CAN YOU RECOMMEND ANY ACCOMMODATION?

If you're looking for a place to stay after the race, we'd recommend the Horse and Jockey Hotel / Motel.

If you're looking for somewhere nearby in Toowoomba, we'd recommend Vacy Hall.  This spectacular homestead is great with cyclists, and the accommodation is top notch! Nothing like spending a night in front of a log fire before battling Queensland's toughest and most prestigious one day road race classic!

If you're looking for a place to rest your head the night before the race, we're told that Rooms Motel Gatton offers a great stay and is only 500m from the start line. We're told that the Royal Hotel Gatton also offers a great room, good food and a nice stay.
